Lions beat the division Leaders in a great game of end to end rugby with a early scare with Milford going 8 points up before the Lions found there feet dominating the game in the second half with good play from their forwards Martin Nicoll, John Smith and Craig Barker putting the plateform in place for their halfbacks Richard Frankland, Sam Wilson to control the game in the later stages

A great all round team effort with veteran Rob Hollins playing out of position putting in some great hits along side retiring Craig Machen, Brett Tuffs and Aidy Turner with their workload

4min / 0-4 - Milford start well going in outwide capitalising on weak Lions defense
10min / 0-8 Milford regain possesion through a penalty to work a move and go over against run of play
The Lions loose big running forward Andy Hayburn witha broken ankle going over in the tackle as he takes it in
15min 6-8 Ian Jackson steps his way through to score under the posts with Kevin Eadie putting the conversion over
22min 6-12 Millford went over outwide with a dubious try on the whitewash deemed to be a try with the attacker in touch !

25min 12-12 Kevin Eadie burst his way through finding the gap to score, Kevin Eadie kicking the conversion
28min 18-12 Rob Hollins uses his pace to go out wide beating 3 defenders, Kevin Eadie kicking the conversion
35min 24-12 Ian Jackson steps through players to score a text book try under the posts, Kevin Eadie kicking the conversion
44min 24-18 Milford come back outwide before Lions start to overwelm and dominate the second half of play

The Lions would like to place on record their thanks to long standing player, Craig Machen over the years for his massive contribution to the club and the team as he is forced to retire through a serious knee injury

Lions scored through Kevin eadie side stepping his way over for Lions 1st try 8mins into the game 0-6 with Kevin Eadie conversion, after a slow start with both sides playing one man rugby down the middle

With Lions conceding needless penalties it was a further 10mins before the ball found its way out wide for Rob Hollins to use his pace going 40yds to score under the sticks beating 3 men on his way 0-12 with Kevin Eadie Goal

The Lions getting sucked into playing one up rugby drifted away from their game plan without completing their sets making it a close game in the 1st half with the Home side coming back to score through Lions poor tackling close on their own line with conversion making it 6-12 on the 30 minute mark

Just before halftime Lions hardworking prop Kyle Littlewood bundled his way over from close range with missed conversion 6-16 at the break

With new coach Craig Barker setting things right with his teamtalk at the interval the Lions came out with more vigour in the second half stepping up the pace of the game lead by Dean Gamble and John Smith, capilisising early on with Kevin Eadie side stepping through 2 men to gallop 50yds to the line under the posts 6-22 (44min)

With the Lions starting to pass the ball about with captain Stephen Clough linking up well with Sam Wilson and James Blewitt working the gaps well The Lions began to find their form with good work by forwards Brett Tuffs and John Smith setting the example

With the home side tiring fast the Lions stepped up a gear with Steve Laurie storming his way through 2 would be defenders going half way to score with conversion by Eadie 6-28 (50min) to effectively finish the game off

The Lions on their uppers forged their way to the opponnents 25yd line before Kevin Eadie sent in John Smith off a well timed pass to score 6-34 (55min) with Kevin Eadie conversion.

With the home side giving away penalties and losing a man to the sin bin not helping their cause, the Lions came back upfield quickly for the inform Kevin Eadie to again show his pace and side step his way through going over from 25yds converting his own try making it 6-40 (60min)

With credit to The home side not throwing in the towel yet battered the Lions line before losing possesion in a one on one with Steve Laurie regathering beating 2 men and going full length to score a cracking try 6-46 (66min)

The Lions looking strong in all areas next up was Kevin Eadie making the break to offload to the supporting Liam Ripley to score from halfway under the sticks 6-52 (72min)

With Lions completing their sets John Smith sent over a well worked kick for Liam Ripley to regather and finish the game off with conversion by Kevin Eadie 6-58 (79min) to round off a convincing win for the Lions

This was a bruising game with the Lions taking the spoils in the second half convincenly but need to complete their sets more earlier on if they are to make headway in this league

Premier Division Cutsyke Fed to the Lions"

"2nd Division" Lions dominated this game from the off lead with returning Lions player Kevin Eadie bossing the park, helped by young Sam Wilson and some massive work by the Lions forwards Kyle Littlewood, Ben Hitch, Marc Richardson and Jimmy Blewett

The Lions opened up the scoring with good working by Eadie leading to Sam Wilson cutting through 2 would be defenders 30yrds out to blitz his way outwide to the line under the sticks, with conversion by Kevin Eadie 6 - 0

3 minutes later, next up was Kevin Eadie to slice his way through the defense making it 12-0 to the lions with little offered back from Premier Division local rivals Cutsyke, Lions made good ground for acting half Blewett, Eadie to set up Wilson again spotting his gap to score his second with conversion by Kevin Eadie making it 18 - 0 with 15 mins gone

The Lions with a player in the sinbin were down to 12 men but fought on well before easing off letting Cutsyke come back with a try from close range making it 18 - 4 with missed conversion

Just before the interval Lions came back through the middle with Marc Richardson leading his troops setting up the fast paced Kyle Littlewood to bundle his way over taking it 24 - 4 with conversion by Eadie

After the break Cutsyke came back with a few choice hits unseen by the referee, and again came back with a try outwide with missed conversion making it 24 - 8 before Lions picked up the pace again with 2 fine Debuts by brothers Luke and Josh Beecher never taking a backward step utilising their lightning pace to cause disruption to Cutsykes older defenders.

Upstepped Marc Richardson to force his way over from 10yds with Cutsyke looking well beaten 28 - 8 and the Lions dominating every play leading to young Josh Beecher scoring a superb end to end try with 5 minutes to go with missed conversion 32 - 8

Kevin Eadie rubbed salt into Cutsykes wounds again slipping through the weak Cutsyke defense to score Lions final try with missed conversion making it a convincing win of 36 - 8 for a young 2nd Division Featherstone Lions side against their Premier division rivals.

The Lions undergoing rebuilding at present and awaiting more players coming back can be proud of their efforts and will take some beating if they remain as focused in their game plan under new Coach Craig Barker.

The Lions wish to thank their past coach Lee Senior for all his time and commitment to the club over the years after he as stepped down to take a break from the game.

Featherstone Lions 34 Morley Borough 30 (Friendly)

A well contested game with no quarter given between two committed sides on a hot day

The Lions showing well with this game being their 1st of the new season with many new players coming in, did well to gel so quicky with some great flowing rugby played on the day against a hard robust Leeds side

The Lions forwards set the foundations well with good work from Kyle Littlewood and Craig Machen getting through a tremendous amount of work
linking well with workhorse Craig Williams.

With 5 minutes gone, The Lions opened the scoreline with a slick try by the evasive running Ricky Williams converted by Kevin Eadie 6-0

On the 10 minute mark up ran the strong running Craig Machen to go over with a clever pass off Craig Williams putting him over the whitewash, converted by Kevin Eadie

Morley came back through a lapse of Lions concentration making it 10-6

With the Lions starting to dominate play with Williams and Sam Wilson in the middle causing their opponents trouble Lions Kevin Eadie burst through opening up the defense from half way to go all the way and also add on his own converted kick to make it 16-6 on the 30 minute mark

The Lions pressed on but were held up short before Kyle Littlewood fell over the line from a yard out, startled by his pace on the line under the posts 22-6 with Kevin Eadie Conversion

After the break Marc Richardson burst through outwide using his bulk to take him over 28 - 6

Giving credit to Morley they never gave up and began a great come back with the heat taking its toll on the Lions defensive play, scoring a brace of tries to come back within 28-26 with 10 minutes to go before Luke Jackson found the gap going over out wide to set up a tense end to the game with conversion by Kevin Eadie making it 34-26 before Morley again struck back with a try in the closing stages of play finishing the game 34-30

The Lions missing some regulars played well as a whole team and will build from were they dug in with a gutsy performance to get the win.

Best 1, 2 and 3 for the Lions were Kyle Littlewood, Kevin Eadie, Ricky Williams
