Featherstone Lions v Headingley Hawks
The young Lions having worked on their sets all week, quickly got into their stride with Reiss Butterworth setting Tristan Parker and Harvey Farrar on their way, knocking big holes in the opponents defense running onto the ball and picking their gaps out well.
Lions scored 1st through the evassive Ryan Butterworth stepping his way through to score with a well taken kick by the hardworking Zach Burke.
The opposition were contained by some great defensive efforts through Ashley Ward, Reiss Butterworth and Josh Haller working tirelessly throughout.
With the Butterworth brothers dictating play with some clever work sending the Lions speedy backs Luke France and Harley Wilkinson who both are improving week on week, down the flanks going close to scoring on numorous occasions
With Zach Burke and Harvey Farrar setting the groundwork, next to score was Ryan Butterworth crashing his way over for his 2nd try of the game with some fearsome running at the line, after some good support play off his team mates, goal completed by Reiss Butterworth
The opponents shell shocked in the 1st quarter came back, out wide scoring to even things up, before some great "off the line" tackling by the whole team held them out time and time again
The Lions big forward, Tristan Parker running wide was punching holes in the defense all day going through to score beating 3 defenders using both his size and speed to go over with the goal by Ryan Butterworth setting up a tense last quarter for both sides as only 4 points separated the sides.
Zach Burke again standing out in defense and attack went crashing over but the try was sadly dissallowed by the ref with all supporters bewildered by the decision!
Again the Lions fought to win the game with Ryan Butterworth storming through to within a whisker of the line before the opponents ripped the ball out which should of been match winning penalty try at least.
With 5 minutes to go Tristan Parker opting to cut back inside with his team mates giving a better option on the wing, went through 5 defenders up the middle running half the pitch to score to score a spectackular try to draw along side the opponents score
With some copy book tackling the Lions held out the Leeds outfit with the "Magic moment" going to Zach Burke for his massive game saving tackle stopping a certain try out wide bundling the opponent into touch also.
The WHOLE team should be proud of their performance and were unlucky only to draw this game but with a few decisions going against them and should now look to put into practice their sets again, when they play Dewsbury Celtic away this coming Saturday 10:30am Kick off
