“One to eleven, the whole team were excellent”
Lock Lane 36: Featherstone Lions 6
This was Featherstones newly reformed team's 1st game of the season after having to regroup from losing 5 key players amonst their ranks
The young Lions looking up at their much bigger more experienced opponenants before kick off were never daunted by the task ahead
Captain for the day was Reiss Butterworth quickly getting into the game and setting a fine example of hard running setting up position for his team mates to have a tilt at the Locklanes line with Tristan Parker going close, before the home side gained the ball and began to batter there way up the middle using there much bigger forwards well.
The Lions tackled like demons in the middle to withhold the onslaught before giving way to a brace of tries out wide through Lanes good link up play to there wingers
Zach Burke had a great game in defense and especially ran well off his team mate Ryan Butterworth gaining good ground and again taking the Lions close to scoring numerous times before being held up close
Tristan Parker never stopped running all day causing there defense problems, before scoring a great try early on in the second half after a clever ball from Lewis Wright to put him through over the white wash taking 3 defenders with him
Debuts were given to the mighty Kane Tonks who never flinched at a tackle that needed to be made, taking on much bigger players down the middle in a fearless display of courage
Lewis Wright playing out of position had a Massive game for the Lions with non stop effort and commitment second to none helping set up play after play and supporting the man at all times "jinking his way through gaps time after time
The backs also played a big role in this display with Luke France, Bradley Rycroft & Harley Wilkinson using there speed and nerve out wide to out run the homeside numerous times along with some try saving tackles made along with some clever play by centre Joshua Haller going close to the whitewash but being pushed back by a heavier side
In summary a fine game against one of the top teams by a small side that has the making of true Lions in way of how they played in both attack and defense with 110% commitment and big show of Team Spirit through out
A full length effort and just reward for the player’s efforts through out the morning. The full time whistle blew too much applause from the spectators on the side lines for a team that is going on this kind of commitment and effort
