Featherstone Lions 46 Headingley Hawks 6

Featherstone Lions picked up from last weeks draw with a nine try spree against Headingley Hawks.

After fielding the kick off, clever play saw Todd Morgan cross the line to feed Top Defender Will Plimmer for Lion’s first try. Converted by stand off Jack Harris Lions worked to ratchet up the pressure. Strong runs by forwards Callum Coleman and Jordan Adams put holes in Hawks’ defence with Lions quickly finding themselves in the opposition’s 20. Influential scrum half Jack Waites  had more than enough space to stretch Headingley, only for the ball to be spilled.

Pressure from the resulting scrum saw Hawks’ scrum half knock on after good cover play by Waites which set up Lions for their second try from a cheeky run by stalwart hooker Ellis Hobson.

Headingley’s chance to capitalise on the game came after the resulting set after the kick off, but were snuffed out by a now characteristic effort from the entire Lions team. Lead from the front by Man of the Match Lawson Roberts, Hobson and Coaches Merit Winner Sam Megson, Fev dug deep putting in hard yards. A quick tap from Roberts surprised the opposition resulting in his first of two tries, converted by Harris.

Stand in full back Thomas Hatfield justified his change in position from centre with strong runs from deep in his own half which resulted in a well deserved try.

Another player playing out of his position was prop Ashley El Zebidi who caused an already shell shocked Hawks’ three quarters endless problems at centre.

Lion’s interchange of Ryan Jones had another excellent game at prop putting pressure on places and came up with a well earned try after busting Hawk’s defence wide open. This was quickly followed by barnstorming try by Megson.

Winger Tom Beal had an outstanding game with quick runs from acting half and a good defensive effort with Matty Wallace scoring his first legitimate try for his club.

The final try came from ever present threat Morgan who beat the opposition on his 60 metre run.

Lions coaching staff paid credit to Lions for sticking to their guns and doing everything they were asked to do.
