A storming second half performance saw the U15’s win their second league game of the season. Playing against their opponents from last seasons Yorkshire League Cup Final, the hosts struggled to find their form in the opening stanza. The Lions did start strongly though when Luke Briscoe marked his return to the side by powering is way over the try line from close range Liam Jackson added the extras.
Unfortunately the Lions then slipped away from their game plan, and began to give away soft penalties this invited the big Wibsey forwards in to the Lions half. Eventually the strong Lions defence did crack and Wibsey crossed for a converted try to level the scores at 6 all. Then against the run of play Ryan Barnaby managed to cross for a neat try to give the lions a 12 – 6 half time lead.
After a few words from the coaches during the break Featherstone came out a different team in the second half and began to play the flowing rugby the spectators know they can play. Ryan Barnaby crossed for a second half hat trick to take his match total to four, and just rewards for a great all round display. Other tries were scored by captain Liam Goodaire, Ryan Hart, Rob Spragg who had his best game for the lions for quite some time and the outstanding Jack Thomson scored a neat try.
Liam Jackson ended up with conversions to his name whilst fellow prop forward Bradley Wood missed his conversion attempt from beneath the posts..
Josh Riding directed the attack well in the second half and Rhys Bashforth introduction from the bench added much needed go forward.
Hopefully the Lions can build on this strong second half performance in the coming weeks.
