Featherstone Lions Winter Team go Close 24-12 at Millford
This Young Open Age went close to upsetting the odds with a Great performance from these young Lions who tackled all that moved
Up against a seasoned older team the young lions many picked from the Youth side with regulars carrying injuries and work commitments , took to task well and held out there bigger opponents throughout a tense 1st half only conceding 2 tries with little ball going to them and on the defensive playing up hill
Fine work in defense by the strong running Adam Wilcock, Andy Hayburn and Bobby Williams helped keep Milford from running amock
When the lions had the ball they gave Milford problems throughout with fine running by Ian Jackson, and the elusive young Richard Williams, with the use of an old head in Lee Senior running marshaling his backs well.
After sustained pressure in their own half the Lions rallied well to work their way uphill and send Ian Jackson in for the 1st try of the game under the opponents posts with his own conversion making it 0-6 to the lions
5 mins later Milford went over the whitewash through tired tackling making it 4-6 before the side stepping Ian Jackson went over for his second try and conversion 4-12
Just before the break Milford again went over utilising there bigger pack against a tiring Lions lacking 5 regulars from there side, setting it up for a hard 2nd Half at 10-12
Milford came out fighting in the 2nd half firing everything at the young lions before they made there way through the tired defense 14-12 to leed for the 1st time
The Lions rallied and pushed on with good work by Ricky Williams and outstanding forward play from the "One to Watch" Adam Wilcock, the lions withheld attack after attack by there bigger opposition before giving way in the later stages to go down 24-12 to a more experienced team
MOM for the Lions were Adam Wilcock and Ricky Williams in fine debuts for the Lions Open Age team
